Abstract
We describe an experimental setup to determine temperature distribution of an optical fiber with an object-space resolution of less than 0.01 mm. Determination of temperature distribution with a spatial resolution of about 7 μm as a function of position and time is reported here for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. We apply the high-resolution measurements to confirm the feasibility of using the rare-earth-doped silica as an infrared (IR)-to-visible converter.
