As an important component of a projection display system, its illumination system determines the brightness and uniformity of the whole system. This paper presents a simple design for an illumination system, which has a compound parabolic retroreflector to efficiently utilize the light from a lamp. The performances of this ultrahigh-performance system is described with respect to light efficiency, and uniformity.
