Abstract
We presented a method of remote-operated-vehicle (ROV) based image processing to restore underwater blurry images here. Because of the attenuating and scattering properties of water, underwater images observed by the conventional imaging system are always blurry. In this paper we introduced a simplified imaging model by considering the camera parameters, the inherent, and apparent optical properties of propagation of light in the sea to process the blurred underwater images. We set up an image system based on ROV and experiments were done on the coast of Qingdao. By comparing the original blurry images and the images restored by the suggested model we can see that the image's quality is obviously improved.
