Simple method to measure the focal length of lenses

We present a simple method to measure the focal length of a lens of any size. This method consists in measuring the displacement of the transmitted spot image that occurs when a Gaussian beam impinges on a laterally displaced lens. It is shown that the method is consistent with alternative methods. © 2002 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers.
