1 June 2003 Fabrication and characterization of four-layer polymeric optical waveguides based on styrene acrylonitrile
Author Affiliations +
Fabrication and characterization of four-layer polymeric optical waveguides with a glass + SAN (styrene acrylonitrile) + polystyrene + air structure is reported. The propagation losses in these multilayer waveguides are reduced by 30% in comparison to single-layer polystyrene-based waveguides. We also present the optimization of other basic waveguiding properties such as index profile, guide thickness, and birefringence.
