1 November 2003 Two-dimensional map of gloss of plastics measured by diffractive-element-based glossmeter

A diffractive-optical-element-based glossmeter (DOG) is used for optical inspection of local gloss variation of planar ABS-PC plastic samples possessing different surface roughness. The DOG was utilized to detect gloss differences, which were measured at successive microscopic areas by scanning a macroscopic surface area. The gloss variation is presented as a 2-D map of gloss measurements. It is suggested that DOG can provide a robust glossmeter for industrial use.
