Abstract
Traditional Cartesian coordinates are intrinsic to most CCD imagers video displays and image processing equipment. While Cartesian coordinates are efficient for image translation they are poorly suited for rotation zoom and perspective image transformations which regularly occur in robot vision. This paper describes a hardware system which remaps incoming video to user selectable coordinates at video frame rates. The system reroutes incoming (x data accumulating pixel contents into the new locations. Imagery is thereby transformed into coordinates which can significantly simplify subsequent geometric image transformations. The system is fabricated on a board which plugs in to an IBM PC/AT backplane for immediate application.
