Abstract
This paper presents a novel technique for generating contours of diffused objects using a dual beam speckle interferometric setup and a PC-based digital image processor. With the object illuminated by two coherent beams , two speckle patterns are digitized, one before arid one after the object is slightly rotated. By taking the difference between the two digitized images, a fringe pattern is formed which depicts the object contours. The phase distribution relating to the depth information of the object surface is automatically extracted by means of an image processing technique employing two dimensional digital Fourier transform.

The method is simple, fast, relatively accurate, and provides a very wide range of sensitivity. The sensitivity depends on the amount of object rotation which can be easily varied. Theory of the method together with experimental results are presented.
