Abstract
There have been a number of significant advances in recent years in the conception, experimentation, and related integration technology for the realization of magnetostatic waves- based integrated magneto-optic (MO) Bragg cell device modules in a common YIG-GGG waveguide substrate. In this paper, two such integrated MO device modules are reported. An integrated MO Bragg cell module that consists of an X-band MO Bragg cell and a pair of ion- milled curved hybrid lenses in a tapered waveguide, 6.0 X 16.0 mm2 in size, has been realized for the first time. An integrated MO frequency shifter/modulator module fabricated in a waveguide (6.0 X 10.0 mm2 in size) that is capable of providing multigigahertz bandwidth with tunable center carrier frequency at X-band and high speed has also been realized for the first time. Some unique applications of such integrated MO Bragg cell device modules to the areas of rf signal processing and optical communications also are suggested.
