Abstract
Propagation of super Gaussian beams, which can be generated by graded-phase resonators, has been treated by approximating these beams with generalized flattened Gaussian beams. An optimum approximation is discussed by using characterization parameters and the fitting of the amplitude profiles. Beam propagation factor M2 and Kurtosis parameter add further quantitative information which is appropriate for and confirms the approximation.
