Abstract
The instability of the liquid jets in a jet singlet oxygen generator for oxygen-iodine lasers may limit the operational conditions and the scalability of such generators. Therefore the type of instability and the breakup behavior of jets is investigated experimentally for varying operational conditions. Jets of basic hydrogen peroxide are simulated by the use of glycerin solutions with different viscosities. Transition from laminar to turbulent jets, the associated breakup modes and the beginning of jet dissolution by surface spraying are observed. Jet lengths have been measured for various parameters, including gas counter-flow.
