Abstract
A two-dimensional channel model for phase change recording media was developed based on two simple models. An adiabatic model neglecting thermal diffusion was used during mark generation and a geometric optics model was assumed during the readout process. The channel model contains a nonlinear mapping between two linear systems and thus the whole channel is inherently nonlinear.
