Abstract
A novel fiber optic current sensor based on magnet force is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A permanent magnet exerts transversal force to a dual polarization fiber grating laser due to the action of the magnet field of electric current. The transversal force modulates the fiber birefringence and therefore the polarization mode beat frequency of the fiber grating laser. The beat frequency changes linearly in response to the electric current.
