Abstract
The exciplex pumped alkali laser (XPAL) system has been demonstrated in several different mixtures of alkali and rare gas. A simple theoretical analysis of continuous-wave XPAL systems is presented along with more detailed pulsed calculations using the BLAZE model. The model predicts that an optical-to-optical efficiency in the range of 40-50% can be achieved for XPAL with a requirement of relatively high pump intensities.
