Abstract
Wireless in-building local area network (LANs) systems based on IR technology are being introduced to overbuild or replace traditional wired networks. We describe a free-space infrared local area network (FIRLAN)-its design and implementation. The FIRLAN system provides point-to-point or point-to-multipoint transmission of Ethernet signals. It provides full 10-Mb/s bit-rate seamless Ethernet integration with performance equal to wired systems.
