1 February 1995 Optical Fourier analysis of a diffusely reflective screen dot pattern with an optically addressed spatial light modulator

Abstract
We present a real-time optical processor intended for analyzing missing dots in a diffusely reflective screen dot pattern printed on paper. The coherent input image is generated with a liquid crystal incoherent-to-coherent image transducer. A rigorous theoretical calculation of the intensity distribution in the optical Fourier plane is made for a screen dot pattern with and without missing dots. Experimental resolution measurements of the system are shown, the optical Fourier transform of the diffusely reflective screen dot pattern is demonstrated, and the relation between intensity in the Fourier plane and percentage of missing dots is experimentally verified.
