Abstract

The optical techniques of the scanning laser ophthalmoscope and its practical applications are described. The technical essence of the optics and electronics of this system for better ophthalmic imaging is pointed out together with the historical development. Basic and clinical applications using many characteristics of the instrument are summarized. Current prospects of the optoelectronic ophthalmoscope and those possible with future technology are given.
