A technique employed in the development of antivignetting filters to be incorporated in wide-angle or telephoto-lens optical systems is described. An obvious attraction of this approach is that it requires no knowledge of the optical prescription, only data determined from certain measurements performed on the lens in question. These measurements include such parameters as entrance pupil location, type of vignetting, and intensity distribution across the image plane. To illustrate its effectiveness the technique is applied to an 85-deg-field-of-view camera objective and results are discussed.
