The authors discuss the use of spectral pattern recognition techniques to distinguish color camouflage from green vegetation background. Here, the spectral feature is taken as the basic characteristic for recognizing the target. We have measured many reflected spectra of state-of-the-art green camouflage material and green vegetation, analyzed their spectral pattern regularities, and found the optimum features for recognition. The classification results are very satisfactory.
