1 June 1997 New glasses of shifted absorption edge in infrared as materials for optics and light fiber technique

The results of the investigation of new kinds of amorphous glassy materials, the methods of their preparation, and their properties with a view of applying them in modern optics and light fiber techniques are presented. As a result of a change in the chemical composition and the applications of special synthesis techniques, it is possible to change the optical, spectral, technological, and other properties of glass. The objects of the investigation were the oxide, halide, chalcogenide-halide, and mixed glasses. The problem of the structural changes in particular kinds of glasses as related to the changes in their properties is discussed. The possibility of the application of glasses transmitting IR radiation is also discussed.
