An externally modulated 1.3-µm simulated 256-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) digital signal lightwave transport system using a semiconductor optical amplifier and wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) technique transmitted over an 80-km single-mode fiber is proposed and demonstrated for the first time.
