We design and demonstrate a polarization-dependent multifunctional metasurface which can simultaneously generate and detect OAM beam. Two different phase distributions are applied on the metasurface using the geometric phase method. By continuously controlling the circular polarization states of the incident light, the switchable OAM generation mode and corresponding detection mode are realized. This novel device provides a fast and efficient tool for simultaneous control of generation and detection of OAM states, which significantly simplifies the experimental system and is of importance for the current efforts in the field of information encoding, security, quantum information and fundamental science.
