A suite of novel chemical imaging methods has been developed to collectively inform on the design and optimization of storage and delivery platforms for therapeutic molecules. Brought into dramatic relief by cold-storage constraints in COVID-19 vaccines, the shelf-lives and storage conditions of pharmaceutical materials can profoundly impact global access to life-saving medications. Our group has developed a suite of complementary chemical imaging methods that collectively provide unique insights into critical factors affecting stability and bioavailability of amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs), used routinely for pharmaceutical formulations. Methods and applications of these novel approaches will be summarized.
