With the rapid development of social economy, the demand for transportation shows the characteristic of diversity and the purpose of travel is more diversified. All of these bring more selections for residents to travel and at the same time, their travel behavior become more complex. In order to provide a comprehensive reference for the study of travel demand, we sorted out the research literature on travel demand from the core journals of CNKI and Scopus, and the scientific knowledge map analysis was carried out by using VOSviewer software to analyze the published quantity, keywords and topics of Chinese and international research literature. With the analysis, we can see that the amount of global research on travel demand is increasing, and continuous research has been conducted on various model algorithms and related factors affecting travel. Chinese scholars entered this research field relatively late, but in recent years, it has developed rapidly and occupies a certain position in the study of international travel demand, and has carried out cooperative research with many countries. There are differences between Chinese and international research emphasis. Both Chinese and international scholars attach great importance to the optimization and innovation of model and algorithm. International scholars pay more attention to the travel demand of the comprehensive transportation, inter-regional and inter-city travel. Chinses scholars pay more attention to the urban travel and policy impact analysis. In the future, research on travel demand between China and other countries will gradually complement each other, but the individualized research of each country will still play a certain role.
