Abstract
Monitoring systems have been extensively applied in many industrial domains. With fast development of IoT technology, there are many practical demands to establish monitoring systems based on IoT platform. This paper presents a general architecture of traditional monitoring system that includes Device Level, Server Level and Client Level, and discusses its primary functions to provide a general understanding of monitoring system. And then components and functions of IoT platform are introduced and explained. A new general architecture of monitoring system based on IoT platform is proposed. The new architecture has Device Level, IoT platform Level and Client Level, and inherits traditional hierarchy structure that is easy to understand and apply in practice. A practical case of the new architecture is given to prove that the new architecture is correct and practical.
