Abstract
Harmonic distortion and low power factor are the issues that need to be addressed for the power quality of the distribution grid. This paper proposes a hybrid series type power quality management device based on thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) and cascaded H-bridge (CHB). The filter adopts the topology of mixed series connection of TCR and CHB. Among them, TCR adopts series connection of thyristor and inductor after parallel connection with a passive filter, which mainly plays the role of reactive power compensation and filtering out specific frequency harmonics. The CHB provide better harmonic filtering capability with the TCR, and also suppress the oscillation between the passive filter and the impedance of the distribution system, which can effectively reduce the voltage withstand level of the traditional active filter switching devices through the hybrid series connection of TCR, thus reducing the cost of the device, and also providing the function of reactive power compensation for the system.
