Abstract
The broken rotor bar fault is one of the common failure types in induction motors. However, most of previous modelled the broken rotor bar fault only based on the electromagnetic model, which can’t provide comprehensive understanding in both of the electromagnetic and mechanical characteristics. This study proposed a coupled electromagnetic-dynamic modelling method of induction motor with a broken rotor bar. A multiple coupled circuit model of the induction motor, a rotor dynamic model, and the coupling effect between these two models are constructed. Dynamic simulation and analysis are conducted, and the effects of the broken rotor bar fault on the electromagnetic and dynamic characteristics are investigated.
