Abstract
The Xiliaohe River basin, located in the agro-pastoral ecotone of northeast China, is characterized by a fragile environment and especially vulnerable to the combination of climate change and irrational human activities, while the Land Use and Coverage Change (LUCC) is an important indicator used to reflect the regional environmental change. This paper took the Xiliaohe River basin as the research object, and investigated the spatial-temporal pattern and dynamic change characteristics of land use during 2000~2020. The results indicated that, firstly, the distribution area of grassland was the largest, followed by cropland, which accounted for 43% and 27% of the total area respectively; while that of water body and construction land was quite small, accounted for 2% respectively. Secondly, the distribution areas of forest and construction land had continuously increased by 674.12km2 and 507.14km2 respectively, while that of water body continuously decreased by 527.6km2; besides, the distribution areas of cropland, grassland and uncultivated land had fluctuated during the research period. Thirdly, the centroids of grassland, dryland and construction land were concentrated on the center, while the centroids of water body and uncultivated land were located in the lower plains of Xiliaohe River basin. Finally, there was a continually slight decline in the land use structure equilibrium, which indicated the land use structure tended to be unstable.
