Abstract
With the continuous expansion and development of cities, the traffic congestion in cities is becoming more and more serious, which leads to a series of urban diseases. Among them, improving the efficiency of urban traffic and alleviating the traffic congestion becomes the important problems to maintain the sustainable development of urban social economy. Based on the volunteer travel data provided by GeoLife project, the circuity index of travel path is calculated according to GPS track data of each trip, and the path efficiency of each trip is quantitatively evaluated. Then, the relationship between path efficiency and travel distance is analyzed according to different travel modes, and the most efficient travel mode is found for different travel distance. Through the study, it can be found that subway is the most efficient travel mode in the average path, and the relationship between path efficiency and travel distance is complex and nonlinear. Specifically, when the urban travel distance is 2 ~ 18km, 18 ~ 20km, 20 ~ 22km and more than 22km, the most efficient travel mode is subway, taxi, bus and private car. Therefore, we need to vigorously advocate the public transport travel modes to ensure the sustainable development of cities. The results confirm that "giving priority to the development of urban public transport " (including subway, bus, taxi, etc.) can relieve the pressure of urban traffic and improve travel efficiency.
