Abstract
This paper presents several properties of the Propagator a linear propagation operator recently introduced for source bearing estimation problems. Among these properties the so-called Propagator method does not require any eigendecomposition of the cross-spectral matrix (CSM) of the received signals and can be performed by adaptive techniques which reduce the computational burden. Moreover the Propagator method does not require any modeling of the background noise but if the noise is spatially white its asymptotical resolution power is theoretically infinite. Besides other propagation parameters like the sensor location or the wavefront geometry can be easily determined. In the case of a uniform (equispaced sensors) rectilinear antenna a linear prediction polynomial can easily be constructed the zeros of which give estimates of the source bearings.
