Abstract
The emerging Common Synthetic Environment (CSE) soon will contain specialized models for sensor performance covering the Infrared and Visual and the tactical RF bandwidths. Sufficient GFE models exist to cover the full exploited electromagnetic spectrum, supporting systems from long wavelengths (thousands of meters wavelength), to Ultraviolet (10 nanometers). The CSE can easily be expanded to cover the full spectrum since it is our premise the available government models overlap and cover completely. The issues of consistent representation of environmental effects, correlated behavior of effects toward sensors, and “fair fight,” all point toward maximizing the use of a centralized Environment Server, containing in one place the air, space, terrain, and ocean data needed to support effects models, and use of a broad range of models covering various frequencies, levels of detail, and application domains. The beginnings of such servers already exist in the JWARS Environment Server and the emerging CSE. Careful management of the populating of such a server will assure that all models in a JSB federation are compatible both with the basic environment data and the correlated effects models each federate will use.
