Abstract
Protecting of ecologically important areas in today’s heavily, strongly changing world requires digital surveying of the status quo and the use of DTM for their rational management and protection. Aim of this paper is the application of modern digital technology in data acquisition and data elaboration process, in order to result to as far as possible more supervisory and better survey, with ultimate goal the better comparison and decision – making among several alternatives based on reliable background of study. The study area is the Kouri forest. The Kouri forest has joined the network "Natura 2000", whilst also has been characterized as a biogenetic reserve by UNESCO, which demonstrates the importance of its existence of both ecological and aesthetic aspect. The main phases of the digital photogrammetric method used are briefly described: 1st phase: Feature scanning. 2nd phase: Definition of work (project). 3rd phase: Insertion of digital images to the station. 4th Phase: Import of the span report. 5th Phase: Orientations (internal and external-relative and absolute - orientation). 6th Phase: Photogrammetric diagrams. 7th Phase: Creation of a Digital Terrain Model (DTM). 8th Phase: Creation of interpolation or condensation. 9th Phase: Creation of contours, Phase 10th: Corrections. 11th phase: Final files - Patterns. The survey of the aesthetic forest will lead to better presentation and distribution of the recreation works. The investigation will not only be useful for the aesthetic Kouri forest, but also can provide guidelines for what can be done in the remaining 18 aesthetic forests of our homeland.
