We discuss some properties and limitations of the method called fringe compensation in electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI), or TV holography, based on fringe visibility data. The properties of phase maps used in this method and their impact on the process is discussed, then experimental result are presented that apply the method to rigid body rotation measurements, producing simple parallel fringes in two different cases.
