Manuel J.B. Marques received a degree in physics from Porto University in 1983, and a PhD degree in physics from the same university in 1991. His thesis work was on nonlinear coupling to optical waveguides. From 1993 to 2001 he was a member of Centro de Física do Porto, where he worked on fiber lasers and integrated optics.
He joined INESC Porto, Portugal, in January 2002, where he has worked on fiber lasers and sensors. He has been an assistant professor in the Physics Department of Porto University since 1991. Dr. Marques is a member of the Portuguese Physics Society.
