Asynchronous vibration characteristics of the rotor-seal system

The dynamic behavior of a single disk rotor-seal system is investigated in this paper. First, the governing differential equation of the rotor-seal system was derived and the whirl frequency and the spin speed at the limit of stability were obtained. Then the asynchronous vibration characteristics and the whirl state of the rotor-seal system were detailed examined. Moreover, the effects of auxiliary damping and seal parameters were also discussed. The research results show that there is a spin speed of stability limit in the rotor-seal system, and the operation spin speed of the rotor system must be less than the spin speed. Seal forces cause asynchronous vibration of the rotor system and there are two response peaks of asynchronous vibration in unbalanced response. The rotor system forward whirl and backward whirl near the frequencies corresponding to the two response peaks, respectively. Increasing auxiliary damping and radial stiffness coefficient and decreasing the cross-coupled stiffness coefficient can improve the stability margin of the rotor-seal system.
