Abstract
The electric polarizabilities of cumulenes are calculated with the aid of the free-electron theory for r electrons moving along the chain of the carbon atoms. The calculations done for different frequencies of the incident light are compared with the results of the Pariser-Parr-Pople theory. Similar calculations of the positions of the lowest absorption maxima for cumulenes include the electron-electron interaction and are compared with the experimental data.
