Michael J. Myers, President, Kigre, Inc.
Education: BS Chemistry, University of Toledo, Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO,
Boling Green State University, OH
Graduate Studies – Clemson University
Rutgers University
Virginia Polytec & MIT
Mr. Myers joined Kigre, Inc. in 1974. Work included testing of laser glass compositions, fabrication of laser components and production of high purity raw materials for the laser glass and semiconductor industries. Accomplishments include: development of high power solid state laser pumping chambers, design and construction of Kigre's customized clean rooms, melting, military and medical laser production facilities, establishment and introduction of quality control and laser production procedures, and formalization of Kigre's Visiting Scholar Program. Michael helped devise third generation Nd:YAG and Ho:YAG lasers for eye surgery, a new series of Faraday rotator glasses, and low threshold Er:Glass laser systems for "eye-safe" remote sensing applications. He was instrumental in development of a number of novel (FDA approved & patented) medical laser devices and applications. Mr. Myers is an ACS certified analytical chemist, Member IEEE LEOS Lasers and Electro-Optics Society of America, The American Ceramic Society, SPIE-International Society for Optical Engineering and Elks. Michael was awarded the 1997 SCRA, South Carolina Research Authority decoration for outstanding leadership in science and technology and a Tibbett’s Award for SBIR Technology Development. Mr. Myers has authored or co-authored 6 patents, a graduate school textbook chapter pertaining to lasers in chemistry and over 71 technical publications pertaining to the field of lasers and electro-optics.
