Dr. Fu Yu received his bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1991, and his Masters and Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering from National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1998 and 2005, respectively.
In 1997, Dr Fu Yu joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore as a Professional Officer, pursuing research on optical measurement and image processing techniques. His subsequent research areas included optical coherent detection, non-destructive testing, optical MEMS testing, and experimental mechanics.
In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt research fellowship by the German Government and worked with the well-known applied optics research institute, Institut für Technische Optik (ITO), the University of Stuttgart on nano-scale optical dynamic measurement. His research on Spatio-temporal analysis of interferometric signals was recognized by the international society and he won the Best Paper Award in the ISOT 2010 conference in Canada for his conference paper, “Utilization of Full Spectrum Space in Single-sensor-based Optical Dynamic Measurement”. He joined Temasek Laboratories of Nanyang Technological University as a Research Scientist in 2009 and was promoted to Co-Principal Investigator in the following year. In July 2011, Dr. Fu received the prestigious Temasek Research Fellowship from Singapore’s Defence Ministry and Nanyang Technological University to be a Principal Investigator in the area of coherent laser detection. He was promoted to a tenured Senior Research Scientist A in 2015. In 2018, he joined the College of physics and Optoelectrical Engineering, Shenzhen University as a professor and deputy director of the Institute of Intelligent Optical Measurement and Detection.
